Work starts on ‘Class Q’ barn conversion

Work starts on ‘Class Q’ barn conversion

We are looking forward to seeing a barn conversion, which was granted planning approval in December 2020, start on site next week with local contractors, DJ Hutchings and Sons.

The barns are located on top of a hill with views across the rolling Northamptonshire countryside which, once completed, will be seen from the large open plan living room.

Our client owns 17 hectares of pastoral farmland which their family has farmed for generations. From the highway there is a track leading to a selection of stone-built barns which have been redundant for several years due to the modernisation of the farming industry.

The barns are in a traditional courtyard arrangement with a ‘2 storey’ threshing barn wing at right angles, and additional single storey stables forming a further wing.

In July 2018 permission was secured for the barns to be converted to a single residential dwelling under Prior Approval Class Q of the Planning Act. The planning conditions required the submission of detailed drawings prior to implementing the approval, which Roger Coy Partnership were appointed to prepare in 2020.
